Off-Road Tyre Tips

Safety & maintenance tips for making your off-road tyres go further.

tyre pressure

When off-roading, it is important to adjust tyre pressure according to the terrain. Remember to take a pump with you to re-inflate your tyres before driving on public roads - driving with deflated tyres can be extremely dangerous!

uneven wear

Check your tyres for uneven wear. If your tyres are wearing unevenly, first check that they are all evenly inflated. If they are, then the uneven tyre wear could be a symptom of a serious mechanical problem.

Tyre valves

Ensure that a new valve is fitted when replacing or repairing your tyres. Reliable tyre fitters should do this without question. However, it is wise to confirm this before the new tyre is fitted.

tread depth

Grip is essential for safe driving, so it’s important to replace your tyres when they are excessively worn. At Tyremart, we recommend changing on-road 4x4 tyres at 3mm and all-terrain/mud tyres at 4mm.

don’t mix ’n match

Tyre brands produce tyres with different features, shapes, and sizes. To avoid an uneven drive, we suggest not mixing tyre sizes or brands on the same axle. For maximum safety and performance, we highly recommended that off-road tyres are used in identical sets of four.

choose wisely

Choosing the right tyres for the terrain is essential for an optimal experience. Mud tyres are suitable for most off-road conditions, but wider tyres should be used when tackling peaty land. For mud, chalk or clay terrain, a thinner tyre will give you an easier ride.
